On Friday, May 30, 2025, McGill University’s IMaTS Lab successfully hosted an engaging event focused on the latest tools and strategies in urban cycling planning. Titled "Exploring the Latest in Urban Cycling Planning Tools and Designs + Montréal Bike Tour", the event brought together experts, students, and practitioners for an insightful morning of discussion and exploration.

The morning began with coffee and a light breakfast at the MacDonald Engineering Building, followed by a warm welcome from Tiffany Cogell, Executive Director of the BCU. Professor Peter Furth from Northeastern University delivered a compelling talk on protecting cyclists from turning vehicles, a critical issue in urban traffic safety. This was followed by an inspiring presentation from Zlatko Krstulic of the City of Ottawa, who shared successful case studies and lessons learned from Ottawa’s cycling initiatives.

After the presentations, participants formed groups and embarked on a guided 5-mile bike tour through Montréal. The route showcased key cycling infrastructure and served as a practical complement to the morning’s discussions, allowing attendees to experience first-hand the strengths and challenges of the city’s cycling network.

The event highlighted the value of integrating research, policy, and lived experience to advance safer and more sustainable urban mobility. Thanks to all who participated and contributed to making this event a memorable and impactful gathering.
